Bulldog Puppy Waiting List

/

July 22, 2020

/ Fog City Bulldogs

July 2020 UPDATE: We are not accepting waiting list deposits at this time.

If you are looking to buy a French or English bulldog puppy in the near future, consider joining our bulldog puppy waiting list. Those on the list are offered right of first refusal on all available puppies before they are advertised to the general public. In 2016, over 70% of our available bulldog puppies went to families on the waiting list.

A $300 deposit is required to get on the waiting list for a Fog City Bulldog. The deposit is completely refundable (minus any PayPal fees incurred) until you reserve a specific puppy, and becomes non-refundable once you do. Your deposit applies towards the purchase price of your puppy.

Whether or not you can meet your puppy in person before choosing will depend on where you live (we’re in LA), our delivery plans, and the gender / color make-up of the specific litter you’re choosing from. We begin introducing the puppies to prospective families when they are around 8 – 9 weeks of age; they are ready to go home around 9 – 10 weeks of age.

To get on the waiting list, send $300 via PayPal or Venmo to rachel [AT] fogcitybulldogs.com. If you prefer to send a check, here is our mailing address. Please be sure to let us know (via email or in the notes section of your PayPal transaction) which breed you want, any gender, color, and timing preferences, and the best email address at which to contact you. We will confirm receipt of your deposit within hours.

AVAILABLE ENGLISH BULLDOG PUPPIES

/

May 1, 2020

/ Fog City Bulldogs

We would love to introduce you to your future English bulldog puppy. Here are the most common questions we are asked about getting an English bulldog puppy. Please review them and contact us if you would like to move forward.

Do you have any English bulldog puppies for sale?
We *hope* to have puppies ready to go home in mid-summer 2020 and again later in the year. Getting on our waiting list will give you the best chance at getting an English bulldog puppy from our next litter – or exactly when you want one – as those on our waiting list are offered right of first refusal before puppies are advertised publicly. (Typically, 65% of our available English bulldog puppies go to families on the waiting list.)

How can I get my English bulldog puppy?
When we have puppies available, and after those on the waiting list have chosen first, you are welcome to come meet and choose your future English bulldog puppy in person in Los Angeles. If you cannot come to Los Angeles, we will share photos and videos and shipment or delivery of your puppy can be arrange. We regularly deliver bulldog puppies to Central and Northern California, and will also hand-deliver out-of-state at an additional cost.

How much do English bulldog puppies cost?
Our English bulldog puppies typically range from $2600 – $4000, with limited AKC papers. Price is based primarily on color and physique. Rare-colored English bulldogs – black tri-color, blue, blue-brindle, chocolate, etc. – are sometimes priced higher.

When will you know if there’s a puppy available for me?
As outlined in our deposit / waiting list process, prospective families begin meeting and reserving their puppy after the puppies are seven weeks old. We try to give as much advance notice as possible, but it’s often only a few weeks, as we wait until the puppies are several weeks old, thriving, and have been vet checked, before introducing them to prospective families. Be patient and flexible and we’ll introduce you to your English bulldog puppy as soon as possible.

If I place a deposit right now, when will I get my puppy?
That depends on many questions I don’t have answers to. Some litters have two puppies while others have ten. There are also families ahead of you on the waiting list. Those waiting for specific gender, color, or timing preferences may pass on my next available litter, which could mean you get a puppy soon. We know it’s frustrating, but we really can’t tell you now when you will get your bulldog puppy.

I want to bring home a puppy several months from now. When do I need to get on the waiting list?
It’s never too early to get on the waiting list, as that only improves your chances of getting the exact English bulldog puppy you want when the timing is right. Placing a deposit at least four months before you are ready to bring your puppy home is recommended in order to maximize your chances of finding your perfect pup. If you want a puppy for a special occasion, especially a holiday, it’s recommended that you get on the waiting list at least six months in advance.

How many people are on your English bulldog puppy waiting list?
Knowing the answer to that question won’t tell you when you’ll get your puppy. If there are 10 people on the waiting list, that doesn’t mean the next 10 puppies are already reserved. Some people have very specific preferences in terms of gender or color and are willing to wait until exactly the right puppy comes along. Other families have plans and a specific date after which they will bring their puppy home. Getting on the list early gives you the best chance at getting your ideal English bulldog puppy at the time that suits you best. To get a bulldog puppy as soon as possible, being flexible with regards to preferred gender and color will improve your chances.

When will you have your next litter of English bulldog puppies?
This question is really hard to answer, and again, doesn’t actually inform you as to when you’ll get your puppy. Dogs are fertile only twice a year and the pregnancy is only 60 days long. This means that we only know four months in advance if there might be puppies. Two months in advance we know that puppies have been born, but even then we wait for them to pass some important growth hurdles and vet checks before encouraging families to get their hopes up. Also, if you’re just now getting on the waiting list, you may not be getting a puppy from the *next* litter. Thus, we cannot tell you at this time when you will get your puppy.

What color are your puppies?
We can’t answer this question about bulldog puppies before they are born. It’s possible to have a litter with 3 or 4 completely different looking puppies in a litter; they don’t necessarily take after their parents. You can get a sense of the range of colors we breed by looking in our Petography section, or by checking out the photos on our Facebook page or Instagram account. The only color we specifically do not breed for is all white, as all white bulldogs are more prone to skin and hearing issues.

I really want one with a patch around its left eye and two socks. Will you have that?
If it were as simple as decorating cupcakes, your wish would be granted. However, we cannot control these things. But, if you’re on the waiting list when your perfect puppy comes along, you might have a chance at him or her. If you’re not on the waiting list, there’s no chance at all, since the puppy you’re describing sounds really cute!

I have a lot of questions about English bulldogs that I would like to ask before committing.
We applaud your research and encourage you to attend one of the English Bulldog Meetups that take place in your area. Going to English bulldog meetups will enable you to see the range of colors and sizes English bulldogs come in, as well as speak with their owners, who are happy to gush about how great their dogs are as well as of the realities of caring for the breed.

Can I come see your facility and visit your puppies before committing to getting an English bulldog puppy from you?
Due to other professional obligations and the number of people who ask, we can’t accommodate this request. You will see where we live when it’s time for you to choose your puppy. Keep in mind that by placing a refundable deposit, you are not committing to getting an English bulldog puppy from us. You are only maximizing the chances of getting the English bulldog puppy you want when you want it. To do more research on Fog City Bulldogs, please check out our Yelp reviews and Facebook page to get a sense of our customers’ satisfaction and the community we have built with our puppy families.

May I come by and meet your dogs to see if I am allergic to English bulldogs?
PLEASE figure out if you or anyone in your family is allergic to dogs BEFORE bringing one home. That sounds like the perfect thing to do at the English Bulldog Meetups, where there are many dogs there for you to pet and play with. There is nothing hypoallergenic about English bulldogs. If you are allergic to other dogs, you are likely allergic to English bulldogs as well.

I’m interested in getting an English bulldog puppy from you. What are the next steps?
Yay! We are very excited to introduce you to your English bulldog puppy. The next step is to place a refundable $300 deposit via PayPal, Venmo, or check to secure your place on the waiting list. If you have specific preferences in terms of gender, color, or when you want to bring your puppy home, please let us know (via email or in the PayPal notes section). If we don’t believe we’ll have an English bulldog puppy meeting your specifications, we’ll let you know.

AVAILABLE FRENCH BULLDOG PUPPIES

/

May 1, 2020

/ Fog City Bulldogs

We would love to introduce you to your future French bulldog puppy. Here are frequently asked questions about getting a French bulldog puppy from Fog City Bulldogs.

Do you have any French bulldog puppies for sale?
We *hope* to have puppies ready to go home in fall 2020 and again later in the year. If you are interested in getting a French bulldog puppy in the coming months, we strongly recommend getting on our waiting list. Typically, 80%+ of our available French bulldog puppies go to families on the waiting list, with the remaining offered publicly after those families have had right of first refusal. Our French bulldog puppies are available in Los Angeles for in-person meet and greets, selection, and pick-up. We also regularly deliver bulldog puppies to Central and Northern California and will hand-deliver out-of-state at an additional cost.

When will you know if the upcoming litters are spoken for?
As outlined in our deposit / waiting list process, prospective families usually begin meeting and reserving their puppy after the puppies are seven weeks old and have passed important vet checks and growth hurdles. Only after everyone on the waiting list has been contacted will I know if I have puppies available. That may be after the puppies are 8 weeks old.

What is the probability that I can get a puppy from your next litter?
I do not have a satisfying answer to this question, because I don’t know how many puppies will be in my next litter – it could be two or ten – or how many of the people on my waiting list will take a puppy home at the first available opportunity. However, it’s very common for families on my waiting list to pass on available puppies due to personal preferences regarding the color or gender of their new puppy, or due to conflicts in their schedules. Getting on the French bulldog puppy waiting list gives you the best chance at getting one of my puppies, and since the deposit is refundable, you have nothing to lose.

How many people are on your French bulldog waiting list?
It doesn’t really matter. If there are 10 people on the waiting list, that doesn’t mean that my next 10 puppies are already reserved. Some people have very specific preferences in terms of gender or color and are willing to wait until exactly the right puppy comes along. Other families have plans and a specific date after which they will bring their puppy home. Getting on the list gives you the best chance at getting your ideal French bulldog puppy at the time that suits you.

How much do French bulldog puppies cost?
Our French bulldog puppies typically range from $3500 – $4500, with limited AKC papers. Price is based primarily on color and physique. Rare-colored French bulldogs – blue, blue-eyed, chocolate – are priced even higher.

Will you have French bulldog puppies ready for Christmas or Valentine’s Day or next summer?
We can’t necessarily predict or plan if we will have a litter of French bulldog puppies for sale at a specific time. Dogs are fertile only twice a year, and the pregnancy is only 60 days long. This means that we only know four months in advance if there might be puppies. Two months in advance we know that puppies exist, but even then we wait for them to pass important growth hurdles and vet checks before encouraging prospective families to start prepping for their new Frenchie puppy. If you really, really, really want a puppy at a specific time, you maximize your chances by being on our bulldog puppy waiting list. I recommend getting on the waiting list for a French bulldog puppy at least four months in advance, though of course it’s possible it won’t take that long.

What color will your next litter of puppies be?
This is a really hard question to answer about French bulldog puppies before they are born. It’s possible to have a litter with 3 or 4 completely different looking puppies. Common colors amongst our Frenchies include fawn with a black mask, red with a black mask, brindle, blue, blue fawn, blue sable, red sable, and fawn sable. White with patches (piebald) are less common in our litters. We rarely have cream and we do not breed for all white dogs, as they tend to have more skin and hearing issues.

I really want one with a patch around its left eye and two white socks. When will you have that?
If it were as simple as decorating cupcakes, your wish would be granted. Alas, that’s like asking your doctor or spouse for a child with a heart-shaped birthmark and a MENSA-level IQ. No breeder can control these things. But, if you’re on the waiting list when your perfect puppy comes along, you might have a chance at him or her. If you’re not on the waiting list, there’s really no chance at all, since the puppy you’re describing sounds really cute and is sure to be scooped up!

I have a lot of questions about French bulldogs that I would like to ask before committing.
I applaud your desire to research the breed and encourage you to attend a local French Bulldog Meetup. There you will be able to see the range of colors and sizes French bulldogs come in, as well as speak with their owners, who are happy to gush about how great their dogs are and of the realities of caring for a bulldog.

I would like to come see your home and visit any puppies you have before committing to getting a French bulldog puppy from you.
Due to other professional obligations and the number of people who ask, we cannot accommodate this request. Keep in mind that by placing a refundable deposit, you are not committing to getting a French bulldog puppy from Fog City Bulldogs; you are only maximizing the chances of getting the French bulldog puppy you want when you want it. To do more research on Fog City Bulldogs, please check out our Yelp reviews and facebook page to get a sense of our customers’ experiences and of the community we have built with our puppy families.

May I come by and meet your dogs to see if I am allergic to French bulldogs?
Please determine if you or anyone in your family is allergic to dogs before bringing one home. That sounds like the perfect thing to do at a French Bulldog Meetup, or any dog park. There is nothing particularly hypoallergenic about French bulldogs. If you are allergic to other dogs, you are probably allergic to French bulldogs as well.

I’m interested in getting a French bulldog puppy from you. What are the next steps?
Yay! We would love to introduce you to your French bulldog puppy. The next step is to place a refundable $300 deposit via PayPal, Venmo, or check to secure your place on the waiting list. If you have specific preferences in terms of gender, color, or when you want to bring your puppy home, please let us know via email or in the PayPal notes. If we don’t believe we’ll have a French bulldog puppy meeting your specifications, we’ll let you know.

Fog City Bulldogs is now headquartered in Los Angeles! The Bay Area will always be home, and we’re continuing to honor the bulldog puppy waiting list that has developed there. As always, available puppies are offered to those on the waiting list based on the order deposits were received and each family’s preferences.

The way it works now is that we deliver puppies to the Bay Area when they are ready to join their families – usually between 9 and 11 weeks of age. Families on the waiting list are contacted a few weeks in advance to see if they’re ready for their new addition. They are provided photos, pricing information, puppy prep tips, and as much information as possible, including knowing how many puppies they’ll have to choose from. A meeting time and place is arranged, and then all that’s left is to fall in love with your new bulldog puppy!

FAQs About Buying a Bulldog Puppy

/

September 30, 2016

/ Fog City Bulldogs

How much do your bulldog puppies cost?
Our French and English bulldog puppies typically range from $2600 – $4000, based on color and physique. Rare-colored bulldogs – black tri, blue, blue-eyed, chocolate – are priced even higher. Our puppies are sold up-to-date on shots, microchipped, with a one year health guarantee, and usually with limited AKC papers.

What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept cash, cashier’s checks and payments made via Venmo, Cash App, Apple Pay, PayPal, and credit cards (Square). We can accept bank transfers to Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Chase, and Capital One.

Do you offer payment plans?
We do not offer payment plans for our puppies. We want this to be a purchase and commitment that our puppy families can make comfortably. Pets are expensive, and it goes far beyond the initial cost. Routine vet visits add up and *stuff* (sprained limbs, swallowed items, stomach bugs, etc.) happens. Add in high-quality food, treats, toys, dog beds, dog walkers, etc. and its very easy to spend in your puppy’s first couple years more than what you spent to buy the puppy itself. While we know that most families will always try to do what’s best for their pet, we want the financial commitment to be something they are well prepared for.

Do you ever discount your puppies?
When the puppies are 14 weeks old we will often lower their prices. But, the puppies are almost always spoken for by that age and prices are unlikely to drop below $2300.

Getting Ready For Your New Puppy

/

December 15, 2015

/ Fog City Bulldogs

Now that you’ve found your new puppy, you need to get physically and mentally prepared to bring your puppy home. The only things your puppy really needs are food, water, love, and a safe place to sleep, but pet stores are just so much fun, and there’s so much you can buy….our puppy shopping list is a good place to start. Answers to non-retail related commonly asked questions are found below.

We have made sure your puppy is vaccinated, and you need to do so too.
Puppies receive multiple rounds of shots in the first four months of their lives. Depending on how old your puppy is when you take him home, you’ll be responsible for 1 – 3 rounds of shots. We typically vaccinate on a 6, 9, 12.5, and 16 week schedule. If you take your puppy home at eight weeks, you’ll be responsible for ensuring he gets three rounds of shots. If your puppy is 13 weeks old when you take him home, you’ll only need to get the final round of shots.

In addition to the standard puppy shots, the vet can recommend and administer heartworm medicine, dietary supplements (vitamins), and flea and tick control. Not all dogs need all vaccines, so be sure to speak with your vet about your puppy’s lifestyle (where he goes, what he’s exposed to – do you have a mountain home, etc.) to make sure he’s getting the right coverage.

Note: on occasion, the Bordetella (kennel cough) vaccine causes more harm than good. Google it; you’ll be terrified. If your puppy is not going to a day care or kennel requiring this vaccine, consider not getting it. If you must get it for your dog, ask for the inactivated version, rather than the modified live virus version.

Your puppy is microchipped. This step is not complete.
Your puppy is microchipped. The paperwork I give you will include the microchip number. You need to register the microchip at akcreunite.org with your contact information or else it’s kind of worthless. A microchip is not the same as RFID – you cannot track your puppy if he’s lost; it serves to find you if he’s found.

Is my puppy potty trained?
Nope. Your puppy has not had any formal potty training. He doesn’t know potty is exclusively an outside activity – this is something you will need to teach him through repetition. I am a fan of crate training but do not necessarily recommend an indoor fenced area / play pen with pee pad. The play pen / pee pad solution ultimately makes it harder to train them.

When you take him home, your puppy should be able to last for several hours without potty breaks. You’ll get a sense of his bladder / potty control your first night together. Don’t set your alarm to take him out. Just take him out right before you go to sleep – even if that means waking him up – and right when you get up. You’ll need to take him out in the middle of the night if he cries to alert you that he needs to go potty. For the first couple months, don’t let him walk out of his crate (he might pee right there on the floor). Pick him up and carry him to where you want him to go. In the early days I recommend limiting his freedom inside the house to avoid accidents – he should be held or crated almost all the time while inside. You can use a large plastic bin as a “mobile crate” in your home. That way he can be right where you are and have good visibility, and still not have any freedom. These photos illustrate what I’m talking about.

PuppyTraining

What is my puppy eating?
Your puppy is fully weaned onto dry kibble, which I moisten with water so that it expands before it gets in his stomach. This is a good habit to maintain as your dog grows – hydration is as important for dogs as it is for people. I’ll send you home with a small bag of the food he’s been eating. Mix that food 50/50 with whatever food you decide to buy until what I’ve given you is gone. Please do not wait until what I have given you runs out; that defeats the purpose of gently transitioning their food.

Bulldogs are known for having sensitive digestive systems, so we recommend feeding your dog a grain-free food that is red meat or fish-based (no chicken or turkey). We recommend Natural Balance LID (limited ingredient diet) Bison and Sweet Potato Puppy Food or Taste of the Wild Pacific Stream or High Prairie Diet, but most importantly, want it to be a brand you can source relatively easily.

Additionally, consider combining any of the following into your dog’s food for added nutrition and digestive support: goat’s milk yogurt, baked potatoes or sweet potatoes, canned pumpkin, fish oil. Long term, adding a gently cooked egg and small bits of fruits and vegetables to your dog’s food provides added nutrition. However, please familiarize yourself with this list of people foods your dog shouldn’t eat.

If your puppy is a gas-making machine, let me know what he is eating and we’ll switch it up. Excessive gas is often a sign your dog is eating the wrong food and isn’t something you have to live with indefinitely.

When should I start my dog on flea medication?
I recommend starting your dog on preventative flea and heartworm medication before age 6 months. You can get a combination medication, such as Trifexis, or use two different medications to get the job done. For some dogs Trifexis can be a little hard on the stomach, which is why your vet may recommend two separate products. My personal preference is for pills, rather than a topical flea ointment or collar. Heartworm medications are issued with a prescription, which you’ll need to get from your vet.

If your dog has a flea outbreak before you have a chance to put him on meds, a bath in blue Dawn dish soap (seriously – suds him up and let it sit for five minutes) and Capstar will get rid of the little buggers.

Can my dog meet other dogs?
We recommend that you don’t let your puppy play with dogs you don’t know, unless it’s part of puppy training class, before he or she is completely finished with puppy shots. Your friends’ dogs are fine but avoid dog parks – too many germs, and too many big dogs – until your dog is more vaccinated. The concern is primarily related to how the dogs interact and whether or not a larger dog will be sufficiently gentle. Your puppy is well-vaccinated and is unlikely to pick-up any dangerous diseases from other well-cared for dogs.

What else should I be worried about?
At this age, the biggest health risk to your dog is pneumonia. Don’t spend a lot of time with him outdoors unless it’s warm. If he gets a cold (colored snot) he needs antibiotics. It’s important to treat a cold quickly as it can quickly escalate into something more severe.

Do I need to hire a dog trainer or attend puppy classes?
A well-trained dog is a joy and if you have any doubts about your ability to train your dog, it’s a worthwhile investment. We’ve seen people have really transformative experiences after just one session. After all, dog training is largely about teaching you how to communicate with your dog. San Francisco-based pet owners have a number of excellent training options available ranging from single one-on-one sessions to regular group walks and play dates, which we’re happy to share with our new puppy owners.

Additionally, this trainer has a good library with puppy-related articles.

Do I need to get pet insurance?
It’s a pretty good idea, especially if you’re getting an English bulldog. A separate post on this topic is coming soon.

New Puppy Shopping List

/

December 15, 2015

/ Fog City Bulldogs

Your puppy truly doesn’t need much more than warmth, food, and love, but for those who want want to feel fully prepared, here’s are some basics you’ll want to get for your new puppy.

Bed / Crate – We recommend crate-training as part of the potty training process. So you’re not buying multiple crates, purchase a crate that will be large enough for your puppy to use as an adult, if you anticipate crating your adult dog. Recommended crates include:

Small Crate – French Bulldogs
Medium Crate – Large French Bulldogs / Small English Bulldogs
Large Crate – English Bulldogs
or
ModernPuppies Puppy Training Apartment – Ideal for French bulldog puppies living in condos or apartments without easy access to the outdoors. Use code FCB94080 to save 5%.

Dog Bed – Delay this purchase for a few weeks until potty training is well underway; dog beds can be too bulky to wash. In the meantime, use old towels or blankets to line your puppy’s crate.

Bowls – We have a bias towards heavy ceramic bowls that are difficult for your dog to pick up or knock over. As your dog grows, an elevated dog feeder has benefits beyond the cosmetic.

Toys – You’ll need to teach your puppy what he or she is allowed to chew on and it will probably take an assortment of toys in a range of textures for you to figure out what your dog really likes. Toys that are the least likely to break apart are best, such as Kong brand toys and Nylabones. We discourage using rawhide and bully sticks, because it disintegrates and becomes a choking hazard. Once your dog’s toys start falling apart, please discard them. Here are some of our favorites and others that have been recommended to us:

Snuggle Puppy Sleep Aid – This toy provides comfort to puppies transitioning from sleeping in a puppy pile to sleeping solo.
NylaBone DuraChew
Antlers
Benebones
Himalayan Dog Chews
Kong Squeezz Jels
Fire Hose Material Toys
Hol-ee Roller
Extreme KONG Toys
Crazy Critters – stuffed animals without the stuffing
Kong Wild Knots Toys – stuffed animals without the stuffing
Everlasting Treat Ball – not ideal for dogs with sensitive stomachs

If your dog is chewing on things he’s not allowed to chew on, Bitter Apple Spray is a good training tool (as is chili oil).

Collar / Harness / Leash / Tag – You may want a collar for his name tag / your phone number. For walking, we recommend attaching the leash to a harness, rather than to a collar. Your puppy will double or triple in size in the first few months, so buy a harness that will adjust as he grows.

Poop Bags – Please don’t be that person.

Treats – As much as you’ll want to spoil the new little love of your life, be disciplined about only giving your puppy treats when they are earned and training will go much faster. Look for treats with limited ingredients (think healthy treats, not junk food). We use a lot of sweet potato and liver treats. If you don’t have treats on hand, a few pieces of kibble serve the same purpose. After all, the dog is rewarded with your praise and something to nibble; it doesn’t have to taste like bacon.

Shampoo – You can use J&J baby shampoo – it’s no better or worse than most pet shampoos. Bulldogs are known for having skin issues, so we like these two brands of medicated shampoo:

Duoxo (gentler)
Malaseb (stronger)

After bathing, make sure to thoroughly dry your puppy between any folds and wrinkles (face, under the tail, between the toes).

Wipes & Other Hygiene – Wiping your dog daily will go a long way. You can start with baby wipes and if you need something more medicinal – for problem areas prone to infection – this is what your vet would recommend.

MalAcetic Wet Wipes – to cover larger areas
Mal-A-Ket Wipes – for smaller areas
Malaseb Flush – instead of buying wipes, apply this liquid to cotton pads

Nail Clippers – A lot of dogs hate having their nails trimmed. They key is to not be too aggressive with the clippers (a slight nick of their fingers will result in a surprising amount of blood) and to reward your dog’s tolerance when he lets you cut his nails.
Snout Magic Nose Butter – A dry nose is common. You can add nose butter (or just plain coconut oil) to your routine.

Dental Care – If you have the discipline to do so, there’s no better dental care than brushing your dog’s teeth regularly. If you can’t quite pull that off, we recommend a regular supply of Checkups, Greenies or Zuke’s bones, or by regularly adding PlaqueOff to their food.. Long term, dental care is something you’ll want to focus on as gum disease is common amongst dogs. You’ll do well to establish habits targeting oral hygiene. Note that most ingestible dental treats/treatments are not recommended for dogs before six months of age, but it’s never too early to start brushing.

What Does Limited AKC Papers Mean?

/

September 13, 2013

/ Fog City Bulldogs

Our puppies are offered with limited AKC registration papers which means that you will not be able to register your puppy’s offspring with the AKC. It basically means “no breeding rights”. Puppies sold to breeders are sold with full AKC registration papers for more money while puppies sold to pet families are sold with limited AKC registration papers at lower prices.

Our pet families have the option to “upgrade” their puppy’s papers by paying the difference (usually $500 – $3000, depending on the dog’s DNA) but this option is rarely exercised. Breeding is costly and time-consuming and can be very physically taxing on the mother dog. Because of this, we discourage people from breeding their pets. We even have a family rule that if the dog sleeps in someone’s bed, it doesn’t get bred.
